One Monthly Goal

One thing became clear to me in 2018.  I am a space cadet.  Seriously, I can't stay focused on anything.  It seems to be getting so much worse the older I get.  Driving Rich around for the last month it became clear, I miss my turn, forget which store we were headed to first, why did I walk into a room?  Where did I leave my tea this time?  I've determined that I spread myself too thin.  So, nothing gets my full attention.
I've tried to focus my quilting by joining quilt a longs and challenges...  Only to spread myself thinner and then feel bad that I couldn't follow through.  I can be a crazily fervent participator.  So this year I've decided to declutter my life!  Bought myself a big calendar so I stop double booking myself!  And only chose one challenge and one quilt a long to start this year.
I figured OMG One Monthly Goal was the best for my current life goals.  This month's goal will be to work on Melissa's quilt, Dazzle and Shine.  She doesn't have one of her own that isn't falling apart, so that one gets first priority.  I did say "work on" rather than "finish" because my other goal is to be a more complete human being.  Perhaps not every waking moment needs to be stitching...  I could be wrong about that though, so don't quote me!  My quilt a long is going to be Barbara Brackman's Stars in Her Crown.  Because... I have to.  I can't stop myself.  I did stop myself from doing Lori Holt's vintage block quilt a long... so far...

You guys have any goals?  Personal growth you'd like to work on?

  1. I've signed on with the Moda string group, Rainbow Scrap Challenge, and a Lori Holt Bloom group. Of course there's also all the ones I joined last year and didn't finish! YIKES! I closed my eyes to a lot of sew-a-longs too, including the Barbara Brackman Diamonds In her Crown. Lol!

    1. They’re too tempting! How do they come up with so many fun things?!

  2. I know all too well how we can get spread too thin. I have been toying with signing on to re-do the Take A Stitch Tuesday challenge that Sharon Boggon is running again and had even gone so far as to decide on a format and to semi-convince myself how handy it would be to have a ready reference of stitch samples to refer to. Noble thought. But then....then.....I remembered that I really want to concentrate on doing more barns (and some houses and churches too) and would I have time to keep up with a weekly stitch challenge. THAT put a damper on my enthusiasm and saner head has prevailed and I won't succumb.

    1. I, too, considered re-doing TAST! It’s fabulous but it does cut in to time that could be used explring new things.

  3. Good luck with sticking to your simplification plan! I am trying to do the same, particularly since I am in the process of moving my sewing room to the basement and am truly overwhelmed by the number of projects I have accumulated. I am planning to try my hand at a string quilt - I have four drawers of scraps that I might be able to make a dent in with that - but am trying to avoid falling victim to every shiny object. We'll see how long that lasts!

    1. I think the string quilts sound fun. I’m tempted, myself!
